Our motto is “Fight Like a Girl”.
Sure it can be seen as a clever play on words for a women’s self-defense program, since most people fall into the semantic trap of thinking that “fighting like a girl” means being ineffective, weak or silly.
Our point is to highlight the difference between self-defense courses for men and women. When a man attacks a man, he either wants his money or his life. When a man attacks a woman, he either wants her money, her life OR HER BODY. The nature of the conflict is, by definition, hugely different. Men fight other men. Women don’t usually need to fight other women – they need to defend themselves from men. The size and strength disparity is huge, therefore necessitating a drastic change in strategy from the normal self-defense courses.
For us “fighting like a girl” means that a woman brings her particular strengths to the conflict while minimizing the strengths of a man. She should not attempt to fight directly into the “strengths” of the man who is attacking her. That’s not silly or flawed reasoning; it is a smart strategy for any fighter.
The techniques presented in our courses are simple to perform and easy to remember under times of stress. They were designed to address the common sexual assault scenarios you are likely to face.
But just because they are easy to do, it doesn’t mean fighting off an attacker will be easy. In fact, it will probably be the hardest thing you’ve ever done. But it is absolutely necessary because in today’s environment, you are probably literally fighting for your life!
The courses here were developed over a period of seven years with hundreds of women in a sort of living laboratory that dealt with the most common sexual assault scenarios researched from real life attacks. The techniques were refined using full contact responses to full power attacks from male role players. And the program continues to evolve.
Our courses are taught by instructors who have been certified directly by the course originators at defenduniversity.com.
There is an important point to remember:
The original method of teaching was NOT developed by Special Forces operators,
Navy SEALS or Israeli soldiers. It was NOT developed by elite law enforcement trainers. It was developed by women solving the real problems that victims face.
In short, you could say it was developed by women FOR women.
